My Background

BACKGROUND

I was raised in Kings Mountain to parents that stressed character and education.   After completing my education and working in Fayetteville NC I returned to Kings Mountain to be closer to family in 2001.  I am a long time resident of Kings Mountain, NC.    As a member of local organizations such as the NAACP, the Abuse Prevention Council and Kings Mountain Womens Club I am proud to work to make my community better.

My faith is an important aspect of who I am and I am committed to my local church, Living Waters Christian Ministries where I serve as an ordained elder.  My faith teaches me to learn to do right and to seek justice, Isaiah 1:17.

    EDUCATION

A proud student of the Kings Mountain public school system, I graduated from Kings Mountain High School in the top 5% of my class while lettering in three sports and being involved in various clubs and organizations.

I furthered my education by attending and graduating from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg Virginia with a B.A. in English Literature and minors in Studio Arts and American History. During my collegiate career I tutored children at a local elementary school and participated in various clubs while maintaining employment throughout my four years. I obtained my Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill, North Carolina where I was active in Women In Law and Black Law Student Association.  I served as a BarBri representative my last year of law school.

EMPLOYMENT

My entire legal career has been one of service to my community and the State.  As an Assistant District Attorney with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office I prosecuted an average of 100 cases per day, four days a week in district court.  I later prosecuted misdemeanor appeals and felonies including jury trials and probation hearings.

After returning home to Kings Mountain in 2001, I represented juveniles charged with misdemeanor and felonies as a Juvenile Defender with the Children’s Law Center with an average caseload of 80 cases per week, which included probable cause, adjudication and detention hearings.

Prior to being appointed to the district court bench by Governor Roy Cooper May 2024 I was employed by the Cleveland County Department of Social Services as a Social Services Attorney for Child Support and Adult Guardianship for 19 and ½ years.  I also served as a backup attorney for Abuse, Neglect and Dependacy Court.
